Providence Commemoration Lab Production Managers (3)

These are part-time, temporary (6-month grant funded) positions 

The Providence Commemoration Lab Production Managers (LPM) support the implementation of artist projects for the Providence Commemoration Lab (the Project), funded by the Mellon Foundation and the American Rescue Plan. Production Managers will be hired as independent contractors working for the Rhode Island Historical Society, while working directly with the Lab’s Administrative Team at the Department of Art, Culture and Tourism (ACT) to advance the project’s goals and deliverables. Production Managers will support 3 artists/artist teams whose work will be completed/and or installed/performed between June and September 2025. 

The successful candidates will be experienced producers with extensive experience working collaboratively to realize large-scale public artist projects in a variety of media. Experience working with nonprofits and municipal governments is welcome but not necessary. 

Each LPM will act as the lead producer for one of three Commemoration Lab sites, liaising between the team at the City’s Department of Art, Culture and Tourism, RIHS and the artists/artist teams at the site in service of the final manifestation phase of the Project. Roles include but are not limited to: 

  1. Supporting PCL artists/artist teams in moving from ideation to execution with their projects.

  2. Collaborating with PCL artists/artist teams to project plan and stage manage (eg. oversee all day-of production logistics) for all final manifestation events, beginning with all installations and concluding with all de-installations, including all performances and site activations. 

  3. Creating run of show and production timelines with artist/artist teams for review with the ACT Administrative Team and RIHS prior to Lab activities; 

  4. Supporting the management of all assigned artist’s/artist team’s subcontractor relationships, including all written agreements and timelines, with artists/artist teams; 

  5. Working with ACT Administrative Team, RIHS and artists/artist teams to track all spending against allocated working budgets;

  6. Ensuring that all subcontractors have proper paperwork filed with State of RI and RIHS; and

  7. Submitting artists receipts and invoices to RIHS fiscal team for timely weekly processing. 

Compensation and Timeline 

Production Managers will receive $14,000 in total payment distributed in six monthly installments beginning in the first two weeks of May 2025 and finishing the last two weeks of November 2025. While this is not a position with a defined number of weekly hours, the workload will fluctuate with the majority of administrative hours coming up front and at the end and the majority of on-the-ground production hours taking place June – August.
