Providence Commemoration Lab

A collaboration of the Providence Department of Art, Culture and Tourism and the Rhode Island Historical Society. Funded in part by the Mellon Foundation and the American Rescue Plan.

Meet the Writers

The Providence Commemoration Lab is thrilled to announce the selection of the Writers in Residence. The PCL Writing Residency commissions, supports, and publishes exploratory and place-based arts writing in dialogue with the Lab’s nine site-specific engagements in Providence. Karla Alba, Chrysanthemum, and Traci Picard each come from varied writing backgrounds with distinctive expertise and bring rich perspectives based in their experience of the city, its history, and arts community.

Residency facilitator Dr. Liz Maynard says, “the robust response to the call for writers really demonstrates the desire for more support for arts writing, and the incredible community of artist-writers that Providence has as a resource. We are so excited about what Karla, Chrysanthemum, and Traci will bring into being as writers working together and in collaboration with the PCL artists.”

To learn more about the writers and the sites and artists cohorts they will work with, please visit their pages, linked above, on the Providence Commemoration Lab site.
